We utilize curriculum from UCLA’s PEERS® Clinic in peer groups, private coaching, and caregiver services.
Attend weekly peer groups and learn social skills through didactic lessons and role-play demonstrations, then practice the skills with your peers.
Customize your curriculum to focus on the topics that matter most to you. This is a great option if you learn better in a 1-on-1 environment.
Caregiver groups run simultaneously with our clients' peer groups, so they can assist their loved ones in social skills development.
The PEERS® (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills) program at UCLA is designed to help individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and other social difficulties develop essential social skills. Here are some key benefits of the PEERS program:
PEERS® focuses on teaching practical social skills such as conversation, making and maintaining friendships, and handling social situations appropriately. This can help participants build and strengthen relationships.
PEERS® is one of the only evidence based curriculum for teens and adults with autism. It has been around for almost twenty years and is used world wide. There are countless research articles showing its effectiveness and long lasting results with its clients.
PEERS® offers a structured curriculum that covers a wide range of foundational topics that are necessary for making and keeping friends. This includes strategies for initiating conversations, understanding social cues, perspective taking, and dealing with peer rejection.
PEERS® is a peer group intervention, which provides opportunities for social practice and feedback in a supportive environment. At S Groups we understand that some people work better one on one. Private coaching allows for personalized guidance and support.
The skills taught in PEERS® are designed to be applicable in real-world social situations. Participants learn to apply these skills in their everyday interactions, are are encouraged to practice right away with potential sources of friends, making the learning process more relevant and effective.
By practicing social skills in a structured, strength based environment with similar age peers, participants often gain greater confidence in their ability to interact with others. This increased confidence can translate to more positive social experiences and friendships outside of the program.
The skills learned through PEERS® can have a lasting impact on participants’ social lives, helping them build meaningful relationships and navigate social situations more effectively in the long run.
